Bill Bryson once said that the weather forecast in London was always the same, "warm and sunny, but cooler with some rain." I never forgot this because it is just so, so true! On my last trip to London it rained every day, usually 3 to 4 times per day, but in between these cold spats of rain the sun came out and brought a wonderful warmth along with it. I was sitting around the kitchen table of one of my good suppliers, in a top floor Georgian apartment in Kensington, when the sun broke through the clouds. This ring was in my hand. It seemed so stunning in the new broad daylight pouring through the windows, the color of the garnets like molten sunlight. Oh, my yes.
Hand made in England's jewelry center of Birmingham in 1896, this ring is set with five cushion cut Spessartite or 'Mandarin' garnets. These lovely flame colored stones are an amazingly bright color in any light. The ring is just a hair over a size 8 and could be resized with care taken to preserve the full set of English Hallmarks. There were little diamonds set between each garnet but two of them are missing, I could probably have some put in if desired, to be honest they aren't very noticeable. The stones show very slight abrasions from over 100 years of wear. The ring weighs 4.7 grams.
This is a simply stunning Victorian ring, like wearing a little sunlight right on your finger!
