Oh, how I love and hate to shop at Gray's market in London! They have the most amazing things in Gray's, the creme de la creme of London's antiques all under one roof. Someone might as well follow me around with a drool rag when I'm in Gray's, I want it ALL. However, I can barely afford any of it. Heck, at their prices, I could almost sell to them! Every once in a while, though, I can't help it, a ring or a pair of earrings or a sterling silver flask simply jumps into my hands and I can't seem to put it down again. Such was this case with this glorious Art Nouveau diamond ring. The exquisite detail and the amazing craftsmanship just had me at hello. It's true I have a weak spot for all things Nouveau, but come on, how could I possibly resist this stunning beauty?
The real beauty of this ring lies in the exquisite craftsmanship and the detailing of the scrolls and flowers, so real you think you could smell them. They all come together to hold at their center this Old European mine cut .5 carat diamond. The diamond is clean, bright and lively, it is set it a floating bezel of platinum. The ring is hand crafted in 14 karat gold and is marked with '585' for the content and the makers mark "BENDER" (I couldn't figure out who this was). I suspect that this ring was made in either Germany or Belgium circa 1910, it is currently a size 6.75, but it could be sized up or down. The two smaller mine cut diamonds weight about .1 carats each for a total diamond weight of approximately .7 carats. The ring weighs 5.6 grams.
This would make an exquisite and unique engagement ring or a wonderful addition to any collection of high-quality Art Nouveau jewelry. Wearable from blue jeans to ball-gowns!
