Before the age of plastic things were made to last, cut glass jars were used for powders and perfumes, taken to the apothecary to be refilled over and over again, and pills, patches and make up were kept in beautiful hand crafted boxes of silver and jars of crystal.
Here is one such vessel, a pill box that was likely made to go on a Chatelaine and now wears perfectly as a pendant. This silver box is repoussed on the front with a cyclamen flower and further leafy patterns to the sides. Marked with French hallmarks, this beautiful little box was made in France around 1890; it measures 53 mm north to south from the bale and 43.3 mm across, it’s 25.6 mm deep and weighs 20.6 grams.
