Fobs. These little pieces speak to my heart. They have secrets about them I try to uncover. What does the symbolism mean? Is this phrase attached to a famous fraternity or a clandestine brotherhood? Who made it, when and why? My curiouser and curiouser nature keeps me asking questions. In this case, I think that this wonderful fob symbolizes the unity of England, Scotland and Wales, by featuring the Rose of England, the Thistle of Scotland and the Daffodil of Wales and it bears the word ‘Unitie’ meaning ‘unity’ or ‘from many, one’.
This antique early Victorian gold fob was handcrafted in England around 1840. It’s a flower shaped fob with an oval carnelian seal featuring an intaglio of the three flowers and the word, “UNITIE”. Overall, this seal fob measures 19.4 x 15.2 x 12.4 mm and it weighs 3.6 grams. It bears no marks and has been acid tested.
This beautiful object would look lovely on a bracelet or that long gold chain in your jewelry box. Imagine it with a simple floral dress, your hair up, and flats on.
