Between the two World Wars, the ideas of glamour and audacity took over the jewelry world, creating one of my favorite eras: Art Deco. With angles, symmetry, and boldness, the exploration and consumption of the Roaring 20s was expressed in the form of beautiful accessories, like these earrings.
These vintage Art Deco amazonite and marcasite drop earrings were handcrafted in England during the 1920s. Each earring consists of 14 faceted marcasites placed around a strip of sleek black enamel which decorates the top piece of the earring. A stunning blue-green marquise amazonite stone makes up the majority of the drop. Each amazonite measures 33.5 x 9.3 x 4.3 mm. One of the ammonites has a tiny crack in it towards the top, I’ve highlighted this in the single earring photo, my jeweler assures me that it is very secure in the bezel setting. There are no marks and they have been acid tested. They are 73 x 11.2 mm overall, and together they weigh 10.9 grams.
I will never get enough of this perfect pair, dazzling in the light, bringing out every color of an eye, and looking smooth and sophisticated with the perfect amount of edge.
Amazonite, or the Amazon Stone, bears an aqua-white mottled pattern, similar to the shades of jadeite or nephrite. This beautiful stone was named after the Amazon River in Brazil, but surprisingly has never been found there. It can be found in other areas of Brazil, as well as in parts of Russia, Australia, and the United States. This green feldspar stone contains a natural luster, giving a polished piece a glossy look.
