There’s just something Mackintosh-y about this brooch, not so much Charles Rennie, but more Margaret Macdonald. Don’t you think?
Well, I couldn’t pass it on, anyway, not with those fully realized rose blossoms and this super interesting dome of mother of pearl. I don’t know who made it, but I know it was made around 1900, and I know it was made beautifully.
This 800 silver brooch is set with a smooth and bumpy cabochon of shell in a brooch which is 53.5 mm across and 33.9 mm from top to bottom and 11 mm deep from the top of the pearl to the flat back. It is marked with ‘800’ for the silver. It might have been very light gilded as it have a bit of a gold look to it. The brooch weighs 10.4 grams.
