Antique Silver Sweetheart Brooch Pin "Best Wishes" Edwardian
$272
A curated collection of fine Antique and Vintage jewels. 'Finding old jewelry new and loving homes.'
The Victorians loved all things romantic and sentimental and this definitely carried over into the Edwardian era. Loaded with symbols of God, nature and love, these fabulous silver message brooches perhaps represent this heartfelt sentimentality in it’s purest form! I’ve come across all kinds over the years. Treasured daily-worn reminders of those they loved, I’ve found some that convey God’s blessing (‘Mizpah’ ), some that say ‘Regard’, ‘Dearest’, 'Adore' or ‘Baby’; and each of these notions was a treasured reminder of someone deeply connected to them. Once in a while I come across a truly fabulous example, and since the Victorian in my soul (must be the name!) really loves them too, I just have to bring them home. To you!
This wonderful example was made in Birmingham in 1916, and it is truly loaded with symbolism. It takes the form of an anchor (the symbol for Hope), and has lovely rose gold accents of an Ivy Leaf (representing the phrase ‘I cling to thee’ ) as well as a three hearts (pretty obvious, no?) and flowers (forget-me-nots, of course). To complete the hidden messages of love, the largest heart is also engraved with a swallow (for a safe return). This lovely reminder is also embossed with the sentiment “Best Wishes”. This was most certainly a treasured keepsake exchanged between loved ones during The Great War (WWI).
For it’s type, it’s a bit of a larger size, measuring 40.5 mm north to south and 25.7 mm across. It bears a full set of English hallmarks on the reverse side with the lion passant mark (For English items of Sterling silver), the anchor mark (for the town of Birmingham), and the letter date mark ‘r’ (for the year 1916). It also has the makers mark of ‘S.Bros’. This lovely brooch weighs 4.0 grams.
I offer a 3-5 payment layaway on most items purchased for full retail price, please inquire if you are interested in setting up a layaway. Items ship when payment is complete and items purchased or payments made on layaway are eligible for store credit only.
I always want you to be happy with every aspect of your purchase. If you are not completely satisfied for any reason simply let me know and we'll work together to get the item returned for a full refund. I guarantee that my pictures and descriptions are as accurate as possible. My goal is to exceed your best expectations!
