This 20's celluloid purse frame is gorgeous.
Each side features two hand painted peacocks, standing face to face on the front.
The round celluloid top "button", pushes down to open; it works perfectly. Two celluloid rings, one on each side, are attached to what appears to be the original black silk handle, which needs replacing since it's split in many areas.
The frame measures approx. 6 1/8" outer hinge to hinge and 1 3/8" from the top to bottom of the center of the frame, no counting the "button" closure. With the closure it measures 1 3/4".
Except for the original silk handle, the condition is excellent, with the following to note: one of the center "holes" for stitching a purse body to the frame, was redone since the bottom of the hole was made too close to the bottom edge so it didn't make a complete hole; the bottom part is missing. Another one was made slightly above & next to it (see last pic showing both). It appears this was done during the making of the frame and not a flaw. There are no cracks or mends, and the hinges work perfectly.
You will love this outstanding vintage celluloid purse frame; it's gorgeous.
