This antique handmade black Chantilly lace shawl is absolutely exquisite; it dates to the Civil War era.
It is done in a gorgeous floral design, with many swirls/scrollwork & scalloped edges; it's truly a work of art.
This shawl is also quite large; it is approx. 105" wide, from tip to tip, 39" long in the back to the "V" & 53" long from the shoulder to the scalloped front tip.
The overall condition is quite good with the following to note: there appears to be a professional repair (see 7th photo), which is 6" long, along with approx. six small net holes. The small holes & repair are all located in the back or near the back shoulder area. There are some spots where the scalloped edging has separated from the body or where the scalloped edging is a bit "rough around the edges (see last pic of an example). It could also use a good soaking, to brighten up the black lace. The overall condition sounds far worse than it is; it's still in remarkable condition for being 150 years old.
Whether you plan on wearing it or displaying it, you will absolutely love it; this handmade antique Chantilly shawl is spectacular in every way.
