This is a very rare automaton of a waltzing couple. It was made by Vichy, a french manufacturer of automata in the late 1800's. It stands 13" tall and has two wonderful bisque dolls that are connected by a rod on a metal canister. When wound, music plays as the couple glides across the floor, waltzes in a circle, glides then spins around again. It is in wonderful working condition. The doll heads are gorgeous - the woman has the most unusual face - quite similar to a french fashion doll but none exactly like it. She has beautiful pale bisque, gorgeous blue glass eyes, pierced ears, cork pate, original blonde mohair wig adorned with pearls and has matching pearl earrings. She is wearing a gorgeous dress with antique lace. She has graceful bisque arms and hands that are in excellent condition. Both dolls are free from any hairlines, chips or restoration. The boy has more of an Gaultier style face with a wonderful blonde mohair wig and velvet suit. He has metal hands. This piece is very hard to come buy and will please the most discriminating antique toy or doll collector. Ask about installment payments!
