This is a rare find: a wonderful antique silk striped child's dress with provenance. There is a hand written inscription in the inside of the dress that identifies the dress as belonging to Lucy Pond 1844 - 1853. This little girl hoop dress is made of fine silk taffeta with olive/charcoal gray and white stripes. It features a full crinoline skirt with ruching at the sleeves and the finest piping at the waist. It has dropped shoulders and short sleeves. The sleeves have antique lace inserts with two rows of punch cut trim and a playful silk bobble (only on one sleeve). The skirt is half lined in brown glazed cotton and the bodice in cream coarse cotton. The bodice closes in the back with eye and hooks. It is in amazing condition for its age but does have a few splits and spotting that are not very noticeable - see photos.
