This doll is a real rarity. It is a bebe made by Schmitt and Fils around 1880. She stands 18" tall and has a paper mache head with a wax finish. She has lovely inset blue glass eyes, painted lashes, multi stroked brows, and a closed mouth. Her head has no hairlines or restoration, just surface wear. Most of these dolls did not survive since they are more delicate than the porcelain heads. She has the no. 2 on the back of her head and her original blonde mohair wig with pate still intact. She is also on her original Schmidt wooden and composition eight ball jointed body with straight wrists and original finish. The body is in pretty good condition although I think there might have been a repair to some fingers (see close up). She wears antique undergarments and a stunning antique blue silk dress with matching bonnet circa 1880's. The dress has some mends and is melting in spots. Her matching bonnet is darling. I believe her socks and shoes to be antique as well. The shoes are marked with a number on the bottom. She is a real treasure.
