A fabulous 10" diameter and 3 1/2 in tall center bowl, or fruit bowl featuring spectacular plums. Beautiful rich purple plums hanging in clumps from the vine, Expertly painted shadowing and highlights of the plums and leaves. A rich, warm background of yellow, brown, gold, red and cream. The bowl features an elaborate gold band around the entire edge of beautiful hearts. The base of the bowl is also noted to have a beautiful gold band. It has been masterfully handpainted in the naturalistic style of china painting. In the 'Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China', page 67, author Alan B. Reed wrote regarding Thonander: ".... little is known of this artist. He operated his own studio in 1910 out of which one floral / scenic vase of very good quality has come to light. No other examples of his work at any studio are known. He may have operated his studio contemporaneously with his Pickard employment." The rarity of this piece cannot be over-stated. It is one of the few examples of this artist's works known to exist.
