Fascinating book from the Religious Tract Society [who produced fabulous travel and natural history books besides their tracts etc.] this one bring French Pictures Drawn with Pen and Pencil by the Rev Samuel Green.

What is so appealing about these books is that the authors wandered where they fancied giving coverage to things both great and small .. and so they are fascinating books instead of the usual tourist guides to notable places.
Everything from Excursions to the Paris Sewers to Roman Cemetries and Ivy Clad Churches is here - along with portraits of many interesting denizens of this lovely and varied country.
This volume has been rebound in dark green leather with gold tooling with new endpapers - but some considerable time ago.
Some shelf wear, bumped corners - but a lovely and substantial binding.
Foxing to the front and back endpapers - otherwise very little foxing to be seen. any variation in colour on the pages is due to shadow when the images were taken.
The chapters, illustrated by over 150 images by a variety of artists are: Entering France ~ Normandy & Brittany ~ Up the Loire by rail ~ auvergne and the Cévennes ~ A Visit to the Alps of Dauphiné ~ Some Ancient Cities and Their Memories ~ south-West france & the Pyrenees ~ The Hill Countries of Eastern France ~ from Lyons to Paris ~ Notes on Paris
