The daughter of a grocer [just like Margaret Thatcher ....] Pratt was born in 1806 in Kent and was interested in the beauty of the natural world from a very early age. The Victorian age was a golden era for botanical drawings and they are no where more beautifully displayed than in these four volumes.
Pratt was very succesful and wisely put off marriage until aged sixty ... I attach an image of the lady for your interest and amusement [not in the books here for sale or included!!!] thank you Wikimedia Commons.
These volumes are in their original dark green cloth bindings with gilt lettering and are in very nice condition just a little shelf wear.
