This is a simply incredible set of books which anyone who loves birds will absolutely love.
It has 365 wonderful hand coloured plates [one for everyday of the year] and not only includes resident British Birds but extremely scarce visitors.
It even includes the now extinct American Passenger Pigeon [see gallery image] The Rev noting that 'one was shot while perched on a wall near a dove-cote at Westhall, in the Parish of Monymeal Fife, Scotland. The also Rev noted - that 'their numbers seem to be incredibly vast - for miles and miles and miles flock follows after flock'. And now not even one remains.
This is the Second Edition and is in absolutely excellent condition.
Just a small tear to Magpie in Vol I which has been neatly repaired. Some sporadic spotting to edges, textblock and plates and some leaves still unopned! Slightly bumped corners.
LARGE scale the books measure 11 by 7 1/2 inches and the volumes are EXTREMELY weighty.
