A wonderful first edition book - in very nice condition - from A & C Blacks illustrated series - this one being of Florence and other Tuscan towns. There are 75 coloured plates, the original watercolours having been painted by the well known topographical watercolourist Robert Charles Goff (1837–1922). 253 pages feature Florence, 'Across the Ponte Vecchio' , Fiesole, Pisa, Viareggio, Lucca and etc.
Florence of course looks very different today ... although still beautiful and still Italy's art heartland, it is full of visitors and the sense of Florence as a place people live is somewhat lost. So this book takes us back to less frenetic times and alows us to see Florence and its surrounds in all its beauty.
Measures Measures 6 1/4 by 8 3/4 inches
In generally very nice condition - a little sporadic foxing as is almost always the case, spine faded as is almost always the case due to the colours A & C Black employed.
Presumably 1st edition has has blocked gilt lettering on the front cover and thus 1905 and a very lovely copy indeed.
A BEAUTIFUL BINDING, to be admired and displayed with the front cover facing outwards perhaps.
