Wonderful rendition of a pair of corgi's from that English master of the traditional sporting genre - Henry Wilkinson, A.R.E A.R.C.A 1921-2011.
We associate Wilkinson more with labradors than corgis - and it came as something of a surprise to come across this dry point but then I remembered that corgis too, are working dogs. They herded cattle. And they did this by nipping the hind ankles of the giant beasts they were in charge of. Their low slung bodies meaning it was easy for them to avoid the kicks of infuriated bulls.
They are also, Queen Elizabeth II's chosen canine companions - and Her Majesty sports a kennelful of these affectionate rather cuddly dogs.
This is a lovely coloured drypoint etching which shows off to perfection Wilkinson's stunning attention to detail and canine character.
Signed in pencil this is no 100 of 150.
The paper has been laid on card. The plate area measures 12 inches by 10 inches. The entire work measure 16 1/4 by 13 3/4, but could, of course be trimmed down.
The plate area is in excellent condition. There is some light marking to the surrounding area - but this would in any event me covered by a mat.
