An absolutely beautiful antique oil painting of a terrier and his much larger, and obviously very tolerant friend. Breeds were much less fixed in the 19th century but I imagine The Friend is probably a sheepdog.
This stunning oil on canvas has been relined and cleaned and possibly had a little restoration. There are one or two small flakes of paint missing around the edges of the canvas -please take a look at the image.
It is housed in an attractive old frame - some restoration middle bottom.
Altogether, the most CHARMING of paintings.
And paintings like this are becoming more and more difficult to find so this is a real treasure.
Measures framed 18 1/4 by 16 1/4 inches
