Wonderful painting of the rose variety 'Handel' by that English master of the rose James Noble (1919-1989).
Noble studied at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art and the Regent Street Polytechnic and was a pupil of the well-known Scottish landscape painter and engraver Iain MacNab (1890-1970). Noble found himself drawn to the great flower paintings of the 17th Century Dutch masters such as Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder. His paintings combine simplicity with detail - Handel is as fresh and real as if the vase were sitting on your own table.
This was painted in 1981 and is a beautiful example of his work.
In its original frame which has a fine delicious green velvet inlay as surely befits a rose as beautiful as this.
Measures 16 3/4 inches by 21 inches framed.
The window is 11 3/4 by 15 1/2 inches.
In excellent condition.
