This is a beautiful painting of Cowslips, a quintessential English spring flower of the woodlands, and what makes this painting particularly poignant is that it was painted in 1943, when the Second World War was raging.
A symbol of hope and renewal in time of unbearable misery.

Heda Armour was born in 1916. A painter and etcher she studied at Guildford School of Art between 1930-1933 and at the Royal Academy between 1933-1939. She exhibited at the Royal Academy under the names of Munro and Napper as well as her maiden name.
