COMMENTS: Siam vintage mirrored compact crafted in sterling silver with niello accent having a Goddess on the front and traditional scenic view on the reverse. In excellent condition with original puff and lining. It appears to have not been used. Pictured as received from a local estate with undisturbed natural patina. Polishing is available by request at no additional cost.

The silversmith of Siamese and/or Thai jewelry is special and appealing. Siamese silver found today in the collectible market is mostly "niello" or "nielloware" style, created by carving out areas of the silver and baking a sulfur/metals powder in the carved out areas. The design often displays Mekkala, the Goddess of Lightning, and represents the Thai version of Ramayana, an ancient Sanskrit epic from a Hindu religious tale, which had a profound impact on art and culture of Thailand.
