The Victorians used coral quite frequently in their jewelry as they felt it would ward off evil and bring good luck.
This pendant/brooch/pin is a fine example of Victorian late 19th Century jewelry. It is simple in design, made in a circular shape with a nice textured gold surface. There is a nice size piece of barrel shape coral occupying the center.
The piece has a c-clasp pin back as well as a loop to enable you to put it on a chain. It has acid tested at 10K (could possibly be 9k as that was a common Victorian standard)and weighs 5.4 grams. The piece has a 1" diameter and would look lovely on a suit lapel or worn on a chain around your neck. It is in fine antique condition.
