This sweet little box was designed to hold hairpins, and dates from the Victorian era - late 19th Century. Its purpose is clearly spelled out on its lid. The box is rectangular in shape with a curved central portion. The cover is a padded deep blue velvet with the Hairpins spelled out in silver plate in script.
The lid is hinged and opens to reveal a blue and black interior. The entire bottom portion of the box is adorned with a charming open work silver trim showing flowers and garlands. It would look charming on your dresser or vanity.
The piece is 3 3/8" long and 1 3/4" wide. It has a depth of 1". It is in good antique condition, showing no wear to the exterior velvet.
