This wonderful locket or fob dates from the Victorian era, circa 1850. It is hallmarked GOLD BACK & FRONT. I am guessing it means 9karat gold as that is what was usually used. The Victorians frequently reinforced gold with a base metal. The gold has a rich rose color.
The piece looks to be a fob style locket, meant to be put on a watch chain, but it can also be worn as a pendant around one's neck. It has a rectangular shape with a floral design on one side and leaf design on the other. Inside is space for two photos.
The locket/fob has a weight of 4.2 grams and measures 1" by 3/4". It is in good antique condition, but does not snap shut. Even so, it stays closed when worn.
