When I saw this beautiful pendant I was not sure what it was, just that it was very attractive. When I turned it over, to my surprise I saw it was a medal given by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company to an individual or group for having sold $5000 in war bonds during WW1. It is dated 1918.
The other surprise came when I noted the bottom where it is marked Tiffany & Co. No wonder it looked so good. The craftsmanship is incredible.
The piece has a diameter of 1 5/8" and shows a large eagle with his wings spread wide open. There is a skyscraper in the background (I believe the Metropolitan Life Insurance building). It weighs a hefty 36.6 grams. There is a small loop on top for a chain or ribbon. It is in fine vintage condition and a good example of WW1 memorabilia.
