I usually don't deal in dolls or doll related items, but when I found this at a Florida estate sale, my heart melted. It brought back memories of my years playing with my favorite dolls, except I was never lucky enough to have these wonderful antique pieces, so I knew I needed to purchase this for you.
The set, which is French, dates from the end of the 19th Century, circa 1890. Lets start first with the box, which is covered in paper, a pale green shade with a deeper green floral pattern. It says SERVICE TOILETTE and has two metal clasps. It is in fair condition, with some fading and a few white spots, not bad for its age.
The hinged lid opens to reveal the mirror, which has a scalloped border surrounded by the same paper that is on the outside of the box, but not faded. It is trimmed in a gold paper lace border. The top is slightly warped, but the box still closes well.
The front of the box hinges out, and on that compartment we find the following: - four French celluloid implements, one being a comb, a toothbrush, and two others, the purpose of which I am not sure. There is also a white and red wash cloth, a small glass jug and a metal round box which hold the most adorable pink powder puff. There is also a wonderful paper box with a Paris label filled to the brim with white powder. When we next look at the interior of the box we immediately spy the fabulous porcelain wash basin and bowl done in white with pretty pink and blue flowers and gold trim. These are in fine antique condition.. The other matching porcelain pieces include a long rectangular covered box, a smaller rectangular covered box, a small round covered box and an open round bowl. All are in fine antique condition.
Other items found inside are two bottles with metal tops and French labels, (I believe for cologne), two sea sponges, a glass jar with silver colored metal lid (the lid slightly out of round), a small silver metal round box with cover, and another silver metal open pot with no cover. There is also a small round plastic covered little box that I don't believe was original to the piece.
All in all this is an absolutely wonderful item for all you doll collectors out there. I know it will find a very good home.
Please Note: There is no out of country shipment on this item. Unless desired otherwise, shipment will be by insured USPS ground, since otherwise the postage (as an oversized and heavy package) would probably be prohibitive.
