Presenting an elegant mid to late 19th Century tussie mussie, or posey holder; likely made in France. The piece was used by ladies to hold a small bouquet of flowers.
The piece has a pierced gilt metal top that has a fancy design. The handle is made of carved mother of pearl. The mother of pearl has a curved bottom with a flower at the base and leaves up the sides, almost resembling a floral stem.
There are two chains at the bottom. One has a gold ring to slip your finger through. The other chain, which may have been a replacement, has a pin at the end to slip into the flowers and hold them in place.
The piece has a length of 5 1/2' and is in fine antique condition. Some modern day bride's are using these at their weddings. They look fabulous.
