Presenting a pickle castor dating from the Victorian era, circa 1880. The holder is silver plate and comes with a set of tongs that has an aesthetic design on the bottom. It may have been married to the holder which has more of a typical Victorian design. There are no hallmarks.
The glass is a lovely cranberry thumbprint design and makes the castor look quite elegant. It has a silverplate cover with a swirled design and nice finial.
The piece has an overall height of 10 1/2" to the top of the holder. I see no issues with the cranberry glass. The holder has lost a lot of its finish, as have most. There is a small hole in the metal just under the frame, which is hidden when the tongs are in place. I have priced the piece accordingly, given the noted imperfection. The pickle castor presents well, as a nice piece to add to your castor collection..
