This is a fabulous figural vase to add to your majolica collection. It is French barbotine majolica and dates to the late 19th Century. Barbotine is the French term for ceramic slip ( a mixture of clay and water) used to decorate many ceramic pieces of this vintage. It shows a young black boy carrying a woven basket. He is dressed in jeans and wearing a white shirt and white wide brimmed hat with a blue band. He is standing on grass and it looks like there are two beige bamboo sticks growing out of the ground. These are the double bud vases. The vases each have a pink flower growing up the side.
The piece has a height of 11 3/4" and the base measures 6 1/2" by 3 1/2". It is in good antique condition with clear glaze, and only very slight nicks on the tops of the vases (hardly notable, but mentioned for accuracy. A real asset to your collection.
