This lovely piece is a pin from the late 19th to early 20th Century, the Victorian era. It is made of 10 karat yellow gold, not hallmarked but carefully tested. The piece was originally designed to hold a ladies pocket watch, which was something new, and all the fashion during this time period. It has a hook on the back to place the watch and a c-clasp closure.
I have photographed it upside down, to show how today's woman can use it as a pendant, by placing a chain through the loop, which is wide enough to accommodate a substantial chain.
The shape is difficult to describe so please view the photos. The front is covered in textured gold and has fine enamel work, or taille d'epergne. The piece weighs 3.9 grams and is in fine antique condition.
