This charming box, dates from the early 20th Century, circa 1914. It has a stamped MADE IN FRANCE inside the box, which was first required in 1914. It looks to have been made at that time.
I believe it was intended to be a box for candy or chocolate, as it is made of paper with a glass top. The box is oval, with a measurement of 4" by 3 1/2" and is 1 3/4" high. The fabulous cover shows a basket made of embossed paper in shades of white, gold and pink. Filling the basket are small chenille flowers, done in shades of white, pink and yellow. There are gold doves on either side of the basket. The display is set against a pale blue, green background and all covered with glass.
The box sides are covered in a brown and beige embossed paper done in a diamond pattern. The lid comes off to reveal a green and white floral paper..
The piece is in good antique condition, considering its age and material. The cover is fine, the paper on the sides of the box show some missing pieces, but it is not visible when the box is closed. It would make a fine addition to your candy box collection, or perhaps be a good accessory for your French fashion doll.
