I am pleased to present this fabulous Victorian chatelaine waist clip, dating from the mid to late 19th Century.
The piece is made of yellow gold, mostly electronically tested as 10 karat with the end balls on the chain testing as closer to 14 karat. It has no hallmarks.
The clip was meant to be worn on the waist of the ladies skirt and has a single chain, from which she could suspend an essential item, perhaps a key.
It has a wonderful quintessential Victorian shape, with a centerpiece of an oval Persian turquoise, with a length of 5mm, surrounded by eight, approximately 2mm sized Persian turquoise stones. I love the effect of the blue against the gold.
The piece has an overall length of 2 1/2", not including the chain. The chain is 3 3/4" long. The chatelaine clip has a total weight of 4.7 grams. It would make a wonderful addition to you chatelaine collection.
