Bar pins were very popular at the start of the 20th Century. Think of the Gibson Girl, with her shirtwaist dress or blouse with the high collar. The pins were usually placed just beneath the collar and were made in many materials. This one, made of Bohemian garnets, dates from that time period.
The pin or brooch is a long bar style with a c-clasp closure. It is set in "garnet gold", a low grade silver alloy with a gold wash.. The garnets are all rose cut and prong set. They are a rich, almost burgundy color.
The pin has a length of 1 5/8" and is about 1/2" wide at its center. It weighs 4.2 grams and is in fine vintage condition.
