This is a diminutive tussie mussie, meant for a child. Imagine the wealth one would have to have had in the 19th Century to purchase a tussie mussie for your little girl. This was part of a large collection which we were fortunate enough to obtain from the estate of an avid collector of these posey holders.
The piece measures 4" in length. It is not hallmarked, but acid tests positive for sterling silver. It dates from the mid to late 19th Century.
The design resembles bunches of grapes and their leaves, beautifully textured. The handle has a chain and ring attached. There is a small hole in the top where a fastening pin could be inserted, however I don't see any place for an additional chain to be attached so there was likely never an additional chain and pin original to the piece. The tussie mussie is in good antique condition, and would make a fine addition to your collection.
