This is a beautiful tussie mussie flower holder dating from the mid to late 19th Century. I am listing several more of these posey holders this week from the estate of an avid collector of these tussie mussies which I was fortunate enough to acquire. I believe it to be French in origin.
The holder is made of gilt metal. The top has a wonderful open work design, featuring some type of berries, in clusters of three coming through the open work. There is a large hook, used to adhere it to your clothing, as opposed to the usual pin. The handle ends with a large opening to grip with your hands if you do not wish to attach it to your clothes. There is a very small hole near the bottom where there may have been a chain and loop at one time.
The piece has a length of 5 1/2" and is in good antique condition.
