Listed this week are more acquisitions from the estate of an avid collector of Victorian posey holders (tussie mussies). Imagine my surprise when I was collating these recent tussie mussie purchases and discovered the writing on this piece. I have never come across a cross collectible of this type before. This one, most likely Irish in origin says "OPENING OF ST COLUMBS COURT BICYCLE TRACK AUGUST 30, 1890". There is a St. Columb's Court in Ireland, so I'm presuming this originated there, and was given out as a souvenir piece at the time.
The holder is made of gilt metal with a silver tone metal filigree top, with touches of the gilt remaining. The bottom portion still retains the gilt color. There is a chain and ring at the bottom to slip your finger through and a chain with a pin at the top to hold in your bouquet.
The tussie mussie measures 5 3/4" long and is in fine antique condition.
