Rare to, find, a Dutch silver box of this size. Most of the ones I have come across are small, but this one appears to be a dresser box size and has a diameter of 5 1/2" with a 2 1/2" depth.
It is a beautifully made piece, fully hallmarked with a lion, which indicates it was made before 1953 and has a purity of at least.833. It also has the initials VS and is marked HOLLAND. There are also initials of the owner on the bottom.
There is a very high relief scene on the lid, showing a tavern, with many people and a musician. The background has trees and buildings. The sides are decorated with flowers and leaves. Stunning!
The box hinged lid opens to reveal a shiny silver center, perfect for your dresser, jewels, or whatever you choose. Truly a wonderful example of Dutch silver work.
The piece weighs 12.065 troy ounces and is in fine vintage condition.
