A beautiful example of mid-Century Italian artistry, this silver compact is sure to please. It was made in Italy about 1950, and is hallmarked 800 for its silver content. It has a wonderful oval scalloped shape and a fabulous enamel scene on its cover.
The scene, done in the Renaissance style, shows a couple leaning against a tree. He is serenading her with his flute. Very romantic. I love the cobalt blue enamel around the border.
The silver work on the front border and the entire back cover has an overall etched floral design. Very pretty.
The case opens to reveal a mirror, and a compartment in which to put your powder and puff.
It weighs 1.865 troy ounces or 58.1 grams. The compact measures 2 5/8” by 2 3/8”, by 5/16”. It is in very good vintage condition with only minor scratching visible to the central plaque when viewed at an angle, and the mirror is also in wonderful condition. Some of these mirrors tend to discolor or scratch, but this one is fine. How about taking it home for your purse or vanity?
