his fine hand painted watercolor portrait miniature is English in style, and dates to the Regency Period; early 19th Century.
It depicts a young boy or lad, with his long curls and his white collar sticking out from a black velvet jacket with red embroidered trim. It is housed in a plain dark brown rectangular wooden frame, which is recessed and has an oval center. The oval immediately surrounding the portrait is trimmed in brass. There is a ring on top for hanging, and I suspect there was a small brass leaf on top for there is a small hole for one. Frames from this time period , usually have the added gold leaf.
The oval portrait measures 2 1/2" by 1 3/4" and the frame has a measurement of 4 3/4" by 4 1/4". It is more unusual to find portraits of children in this time period. I could find no signature.
The miniature is in good antique condition, with some scratching and slight loss on the wood frame. The lower section of the glass could use a good interior cleaning, but I do not wish to remove the picture, which appears to have never been opened, and risk subjecting it to damage. It does not hide any of the lovely child's features.
