This is a match safe or vesta made circa 1900 by the James Blake Company of Attleboro, Mass. It is in the Art Nouveau style. It is hallmarked SterlinE, which was a trademark used exclusively by this company, and comprised of nickel silver. It was an alternative for the more costly sterling ones.

The match safe has a wonderful repousse design showing a woman standing in a row boat it is one of the more collectible and desired match safes manufactured by the Blake company. The woman is holding an oar, and there is a swan next to the boat. The reverse has floral borders, with a monogrammed center.

The piece is in good vintage condition, no dings and closes securely.
