This is a wonderful bookchain necklace, from the Victorian era; late 19th Century. It has alternating links, each with an attractive design. The pictures best describe this. I suspect the necklace was longer at one time, or perhaps had a ring clasp to suspend your locket. That has been replaced with a hallmarked sterling silver filigree push in style clasp.

The necklace is 15" in length and looks lovely around the neck. Each link measures about 1/4" in length and about 3/16" wide.

The necklace is made of gold fill and has a nice color to it. It weighs 13 grams and is in good antique condition.
