Presenting a wonderful antique pendant circa 1870, made from gutta percha. The pendant was originally attached to a necklace, which I have listed separately. Please take a look.
Gutta percha, sometimes called America's first plastic was first made in the mid 19th Century and used for everyday objects, photo cases, mirrors, etc. It was also used for jewelry and often mourning jewelry, because of its color.
The pendant has a raised single rose, beautifully done, with a nice fluted border. It measures just over 2" in length, including the gutta percha bale. You could easily use a ribbon or leather cord to hold it, or use a nice chain. It is in good antique condition.
