Once upon a time there was a gutta perch necklace with three pendants. One was damaged and therefore the others were off center. I saved this antique by making one necklace with pendant, and one pendant on its own.
This listing is for the necklace and pendant combo. It dates to approximately 1870, the heyday of gutta percha, billed as America's "first plastic" and made from tree resin. It was often used for jewelry as well as photo cases.
The necklace is 18" long and made of double hole links. The original clasp is gone and has been replaced with an antique spring clasp that is slightly off center.
The pendant has a length of 2", including the bale. It has a raised carving of a single rose, beautifully done, with a heavy scalloped edge.
Both the pendant and chain are in fine vintage condition. Please see my listing for the single pendant taken from the original piece.
