This is the other unusual piece of jewelry that I purchased at an estate auction in New York, matching a similar medallion also listed on site today. It is a medallion made of a gold colored metal with a deeply embossed picture showing colonial people , three men and a woman. The man is stroking the woman's cheek. It is set against an outdoor scene.
This medallion was purchased at a quality estate auction, and represented by the auction as appearing to be from the late 18th or early 19th century, a d I concur with that appraisal. We do not know its original purpose, perhaps mounts on fine furniture? Please advise if you know.
The medallion has been mounted as a pin/pendant, with a gold border, safety pin clasp and bale. It is hallmarked and the mounts also tested by us as 14k.
The piece has a diameter of 2 3/8" and weighs 10.3 grams and is in fine antique condition.
