This is a very unusual item indeed. It is an antique tabletop firescreen hand carved from walnut and made in Germany or Switzerland. It dates from around 1900.
The piece was meant to be put on your table to protect you from the heat of the fire. It has a lovely hand carved frame depicting berries and leaves, with a star near the top. The frame has a needlepoint picture of two deer reclining on the grass beneath a tree. All done in shades of green and brown. It is covered in glass.
The frame has a pleated hand made red fabric liner at the rear. It has a pole base that slips inside a tripod for you to display on your table or counter. Just lovely.
The frame measures 11" by 8" without its pole bottom. Overall the piece stands 18" high. It is in fine antique condition.
