This wonderful piece dates from the late 19th Century. It is a casket or dresser box made of red ruby glass. It may be either French or Bohemian in origin.
The box is round, has a 4 3/8" top diameter, and stands 5 1/2" high. It has a hinged lid which is trimmed in embossed bronze ormolu. The ormolu trim is also found on the bottom of the casket. There are three ormolu claw feet. Very Victorian.
The piece is in fine antique condition, and was apparently well cared for. I see no chips, lines, or other observable imperfection in the glass. The bronze trim has mellowed to a rich patina. The bronze could be polished if desired, but I have chosen not to disturb the antique patina.
