This beautiful folk art box was hand carved in the Black Forest region of Germany and made in the late 19th Century. The box has a three section interior, lined in red velvet. I believe it was meant for jewelry or other female accessories.
The box is large, measuring 10 3/4" by 7", and is 3 1/4" high. It has the most gorgeous floral carvings in high relief, that only can be done by a very skilled artist. There is a large carved name plate on top with the owner's name. It reads LUCILLE A RAJNISZ.
There is a small opening for a key, but that has not survived the years. The interior lining is faded but the carvings remain as beautiful as ever. It is a very special piece to adorn your dresser. There is minor carving loss by the keyhole, as can be seen in my photograph (hardly noticeable, but noted for accuracy). Otherwise, the piece is in excellent condition.
