This fabulous brooch/pin dates to the 19th Century. It is made of 14 karat gold. Both pink and rose gold was used. There appears to be a partly obscured hallmark on the back of the piece which may read 14. In any event, we have carefully acid and electronically tested the content to be 14k.
The brooch has a length of 2" and is 3/4" wide. It weighs 8.7 grams. At its center is a round enamel plaque with a hand painted miniature painting of what looks like a Roman soldier. The miniature is surrounded by a chased frame with natural seed pearls and three green paste stones at the bottom. The miniature has been placed upon a swirling rose gold back with two additional seed pearls. There is a c-clasp closure.
The piece is in excellent antique condition.
