This piece is just gorgeous. Each time I look at it I see something new. It has three different hallmarks on the front and the back which I have tried to look up, but cannot locate information for. If anyone knows, please let me know. It tests strongly for silver so to be conservative (since I can't identify the hallmark) I am listing it as 800 silver, though it may be of a higher grade. I believe it dates to the early 20th Century. It is most likely German or Dutch.
The bowl is large, with a 9" diameter and weighing 12.7 troy ounces. It has six scrolled feet and is 1 3/4" tall.
The inner bowl has a fabulous tavern scene, depicting eight raised figures frolicking, drinking, dancing and fiddling inside the tavern walls. The attention to detail is fantastic. The bowls border has an openwork design and shows a man and woman on each section. It is really quite remarkable to see so much work in one piece.
It is in wonderful condition, and has been polished to a high sheen.
